Sphalerite (gemmy twins) with Bornite, Galena and Quartz (rare locality)

Item Description

This is a very attractive, good quality, very rarely seen specimen from the Dongxiang Cu-polymetallic Deposit in China featuring sharp, well-formed, deep honey colored twinned crystals of Sphalerite measuring up to 1.7 cm across, associated with dark grey-black crystals of Bornite, sitting a layer of little Quartz crystals on matrix. There are scattered matte grey cubes of Galena on the piece along with tiny iridescent brass colored crystals of Chalcopyrite and soft golden metallic Pyrite crystals which are best seen under magnification. No major damage, and the Sphalerites have good internal gemminess when backlit. The piece stands up beautifully on its own without the aid of a base or clay. Valued $1,500 for size, quality and the rare locality.
