Sphalerite (gemmy crystals) with Dolomite (ex Bill Clark and Gerry Morvell Collections)

It's not easy to find good quality Sphalerite specimens from the Dolomite Products Quarry in Penfield, New York. We've only seen a handful of these over the years, and this particular specimen might be the most visually pleasing example as it features notably lustrous, rich orange colored, gemmy, complex crystal groups of Sphalerite sitting among well-formed, defined, white rhombic crystals of Dolomite on matrix. I love how the Dolomite crystals are well-isolated on the piece, and not just a tightly intergrown mass, and the starkly contrasting Sphalerite crystals just makes them "pop". Excellent condition where the main crystals are concerned, and the piece looks beautiful both on display and up close. I had a lot of fun viewing the wonderful little Sphalerites under the microscope. If you collect minerals from New York, or if you are a fan of sulfides / carbonates, don't miss out on the attractive and seldom-seen specimen from this lesser known quarry that lies about 8 miles ESE of Rochester.
