Item Description
A striking and sculptural sawed and polished end slab of so-called Strickblende, once used as carving material, from this extinct old zinc and lead mine. Strickblende is an association of galena and sphalerite and is related to Schalenblende, a reniform mixture of sphalerite, marcasite, pyrite, galena and possible wurtzite. The piece is highlighted by the vuggy botryoidal galena dramatically enclosed in banded, multi-hued colloform sphalerite. Formerly in the Leon Hupperichs Collection and was collected on the dumps in the mid-1970s. Ex Wouter van Tichelen Collection and comes with two 29.8 x 21.0 cm glossy photos of the specimen, a closeup and description. A choice, artistic and very rich historic specimen.
