Sphalerite, Galena & Pyrite on Quartz (rare locale)

Item Description

RARE and aesthetic combination from this obscure porphyry-style polymetallic deposit in Jiangxi, China - Dongxiang. The impressive small cabinet hosts well-placed clusters and isolated sharp, translucent, orange-brown, twinned Sphalerite crystals. The striking central cluster is dominated by the large, 2.4 x 2.2 cm crystal. Fine accessories include the scattered, sharp, metallic-gray, modified Galena cubes at the top and elsewhere, to 1.0 cm, some with pretty iridescence and a sprinkling of tiny, sparkly, golden Pyrite microcrystals on the druzy Quartz matrix. The sphalerites have a gorgeous, rich orange glow, when backlit. All of the major sphalerite and galena crystals are pristine The piece is nearly pristine, with only a bruised sphalerite noted at the bottom of the piece. The piece displays well without aid as the base has been sawed. Ex De Natura (Les Presmyk) dealer stock and valued by Les at $3000. Perhaps high on this one, but still a very choice example for the crystal quality. VERY RARE and outstanding sphalerite and galena combination from the less well-known locale.
