Very rich and impressive large combination crystallized ore specimen from the famous Commodore Mine at Creede. Sharp, lustrous, twinned sphalerite crystals, to 1.3 cm, look metallic-gray under normal light, but GLOW gemmy yellow-brown when back lit! Sharp, coated, silvery galena cubes, to 7 mm, with many strikingly hoppered are richly scattered about. A few beautiful iridescent golden chalcopyrite sphenoids, to 1.4 cm, are the final and excellent complement. The underlying matrix is sparkly microcrystalline sphalerite with quartz and a few pyrite crystals. Ex Bob Reynolds Collection, a well-known fossil and mineral expert and Curator of the San Bernardino County Museum. He passed away in 2020. This very high quality large combination came from a mid-2000s specimen-mining venture at the extinct silver mine. The Commodore Mine has produced some of Colorado's finest sphalerite specimens and this is an excellent combination example.
