Item Description

The renowned Stari Trg Mine in Kosovo is the central mine at Trepca. This famed locale has produced some amazing display / association specimens over the years. This locality is well-known for its beautiful sulfides and even has produced some impressive pieces of various carbonates like Calcite. This piece hosts several fine quality, rather lustrous, razor-sharp, jet-black crystals of Sphalerite (some of which show excellent twinning) measuring up to 2.2 cm, associated with white to grey-white colored Calcite featuring somewhat "stacked" groups of compressed rhombic crystals. No major damage I can find on the display side, and the contrast of the black and white minerals together creates a very eye-catching specimen.
