Item Description
An excellent quality and rarely seen GEMMY green Sphalerite with Calcite from the famous Portland Mine in the San Juan Mountains of southwestern Colorado. These are some of the finest quality and color Sphalerites from any locality in Colorado, and exceptionally rare on the market and in collections. I have only seen a handful of these pieces over the years, and they are quite possibly the best green color of any Sphalerites from any Colorado including the Camp Bird Mine, the Big Four Mine or the various mines around Creede. The pieces features a complex, bright green color, gemmy, sharp, lustrous crystal groups of Sphalerite which is associated with Calcite and Pyrite. A classic specimen from this relatively obscure mine near Ouray, which was best known to collectors for the Sphalerites it produced. If you're a Colorado collector, a Sphalerite collector or a collector of transparent sulfides, don't let this one get away. From the collection of Brian Kosnar, originally collected by his maternal grandfather, Dave Bergman.
