Item Description

A classic specimen from the Tri-State District featuring fine quality, sharp, well-formed, rich deep reddish-brown color modified tetrahedral crystals of Sphalerite with the classic "ruby jack" appearance scattered over a matrix coated by tiny Quartz and Dolomite crystals. The largest Sphalerite measures up to 2.1 cm across. Good quality for the material, despite a bit of roughness in a few spots, but the piece looks great in person. Classic material from Joplin. From the collection of Colorado mining legend, Dave Bergman. Dave is now retired from mining, but was formerly the foreman and primary person in charge of recovering specimens at the famous Sweet Home Mine near Alma, Colorado during the late 1970s, and the maternal grandfather of Brian Kosnar.
