Item Description
Classic and aesthetic old-time sphalerite from the historic Joplin Field. The sculptural chert matrix is richly and attractively covered with two generations of sphalerite. The large, lustrous, stepped-growth, jet-black crystals dominate with smaller gemmy, rubyjack crystals peppered about. The impresssive crowning sphalerite is 2.8 cm tall. A very fine 360-degree piece, as the back is festooned with rubyjack crystals. Choice material from the George Feist Collection # 3139. Good timing! See the current Mineralogical Record Special Issue on the Tri-State District.
