Bulgaria is probably the best active region producing gem quality Sphalerite in the world right now. Some of the best gem quality green, yellow and orange Sphalerite in the world is found in the Madan Region of Bulgaria. This particular gem is a features a custom "Modified Square Brilliant" cut and really dances in the light. The gem under strong lighting shows an incredible mix of golden-brown, orange, golden and yellow hues. Due to the high refractive index of Sphalerite (just a tiny bit less than Diamond), the light return of the material makes for very flashy and colorful gemstones like this one. This stone is pretty clean for the material, as Sphalerite from Bulgaria will often have flaws, but for a 3.5+ carat stone, this one is only very slightly included. A cool collector's gem, and well worth the $100 starting bid I think.
