Sphalerite

A wonderful, large, 360-degree sphalerite specimen from the famed Elmwood Mine. The striking mounded specimen is composed of beautifully crystallized, splendent luster, metallic-looking, compound crystals of classic deep reddish-brown "rubyjack" sphalerite crystals. Backlighting really highlights the beautiful, rich translucent reddish hues of the crystals. The impressive large crystal spike is 2.6 cm tall. Pristine except for the negligible, acceptable basal periphery wear. Ex John Whatley Collection, a well-known Georgia collector (1939-2022) and acquired in December, 1987. John had many interests and hobbies. His favorite hobby was collecting rocks and minerals and he was a member of the Augusta and Aiken, SC Gem and Mineral Society.
