Item Description

Spharosiderite was once considered to be a separate species until proven to be the microcrystalline botryoidal variety of siderite over a century later. It remains a recognizable variety of siderite with distinct form, and this locality is the classic and best place to have obtained one. Intersecting, elongated, worm-like clusters of lustrous, bubbly brownish olive-green siderite botryoids comprise this unusually showy piece. The major surprise at the base is is that the siderite rests on a dense jackstraw cluster of water-clear, very glassy barite blades. A rare and fine combination from this famous old mine from the Bob Whitmore Collection. Valued at $400-500
