Item Description

Over the last few years, there have been many fine Spessartine Garnet specimens to come from China. This specimen is a great piece consisting of superb quality, bright orange, lustrous, gemmy trapezohedra of Spessartine associated with sharp, GEM/gemmy Smoky Quartz crystals on Feldspar matrix. The largest Smoky Quartz crystal measures 2.6 cm, and is undamaged while the Spessartines measure up to 4 mm. A very choice quality specimen from this exciting locality. Please keep in mind that well crystallized, gemmy, bright Spessartine crystals ON matrix are virtually impossible to find from any locality. Think how much the bright orange Spessartines from the Little Three mine sell for these days. These specimens are truly underappreciated in my mind due to the fact that there hasn't been a locality in 30 years that produces bright orange Spessartines on matrix of such fine quality. The Garnet group as a whole is underappreciated due to the fact the finely crystallized specimens of most species are not as common as one might think.
