Spessartine with Galena (ex Chet Lemanski Collection)

A classic association specimen from one of the world's most famous and prolific localities. While Spessartine Garnet and Galena are not considered rare minerals, the combination of the two species together on the same specimen is quite rare. This small cabinet sized piece hosts many "jewel"-like crystals of gemmy rich orange to orange-red colored Spessartine Garnet with glistening striated trapezohedral faces sitting on silvery-grey cubic Galena on matrix. The largest Spessartine measures 3 mm across. Very little damage, and the Garnets are fun to view up close! You don't see these on the market anymore, so don't miss out if you're a fan of Garnets, unusual association specimens or minerals from Broken Hill. From the collection of Chester ("Chet") S. He worked briefly as a drill runner at the famous Sterling Mine, in Ogdensburg, New Jersey and from 1987 to 1990 he helped convert the mine into a public access mining museum. He has held the role of treasurer, vice president and president of the Franklin-Ogdensburg Mineralogical Society (FOMS), and has been a board member and vice president of the Franklin Mineral Museum. The rare copper arsenate, Lemanskiite was named in his honor in 1999.
