Large Spessartine Garnet with red Mica

An impressive large spessartine from the major find in Tanzania (of mid-2000's), now lng gone and done with. Large crystals of such 3-D form were always rare. The sharply formed, highly lustrous crystal is transparent to translucent and has rich zones of burnt-orange to reddish-orange color. The larger crystals typically have less transparency, than smaller ones, as is the case here. Pods of lustrous, purplish-red mica blades are embedded in this expansive complete all-around and pristine crystal. A dramatic and excellent large example from this find. 317 grams mass. This would have sold for around $10 per gram, or $3000, at the time.
