Spessartine & Smoky Quartz

Item Description

A stout smoky quartz crystal with striking sharp split terminations is richly peppered on all sides with two generations of gemmy spessartine garnets. The smaller trapezohedrons are golden-orange with the larger crystals, to 5 mm, are a beautiful rich cinnamon-orange. Most of the prism and termination faces of the variable smoky crystal have satin lustre, which obscures the near water-clear interior, but a couple of faces are glass-clear, letting you see into the interior. As is common Tongbei specimens, the garnets are restricted to the prism faces. The striking stepped-growth prism faces and spessartine-covered feldspar "porch" are super accessories. Complete all-around and nearly pristine, with only trivial wilbers to the terminations and the basal attachment. Every turn presents a different pespective to this fine 360-degree combination from Tongbei. Little, if any new material has come out in the last five years. Get a good one, when you can.
