Item Description

Little Three spessaratines are some of the most desirable specimens from the San Diego County pegmatites and good ones are really hard to come by. They date to the Louis Spaulding era of mining here, probably mostly in the 1960s and 1970s. This aesthetic and classic combination has a well-placed 1.7 cm, gemmy and lustrous, light orange spessartine beautifully set on the contrasting bladed cleavelandite matrix. Adding much character, the 4.6 cm schorl crystal extending the length of the piece adds balance. Both ends of the schorl are broken, but have little impact on the overall high quality of this fine classic combination. Ex Bob Trimingham Collection. Valued at $1750-2000.
