Item Description
At over 12 pounds, and just about a foot in length, this is a whopper of a garnet plate! It is, amazingly, pristine. This is because it was very carefully collected by the mine owner, from whom I obtained it. It has very sharp, translucent smoky quartz crystals to 4 cm, on top of two generations of feldspar crystals (most of them a nice contrasting white color). Only two (peripheral) quartz points are broken off amidst the whole lot fo them. And, the highlight is the liberal topping of gemmy, jewel-like spessartine garnets sprinkled atop. I have brought a lot of garnets out of China, directly from the mine. Among them, few plates this size appeal to me for aesthetics, condition, and overall impact. Valued $3000-4000
