Item Description
This is undoubtably the finest, most aesthetic and among the rarest spessartine garnet and smoky quartz combination specimens we have offered at our auction. Isolated, gem garnets, such as this are quite rare from Tongbei. The incredibly glassy, sharply terminated, rich smoky-colored quartz crystals (5.5 and 3.3 cm tall) are very nearly transparent, when backlit. The scattering of the discrete gem spessartines on the large smokies, small smokies and pearlescent, muscovite book-covered feldspar matrix is striking. The scintillating brightness of the gem spessartines and muscovite, along with the glassiness of the large smokies is breathtaking. This superb piece is essentially pristine, with only the most trivial termination edge wear to the smokies. Valued at $1250-1500. There are a lot of Tongbei spessartine and smoky pieces out there, but VERY FEW of this amazing quality.
