Spessartine Garnet & Smoky Quartz

A showy and excellent spessartine garnet and smoky quartz specimen from Tongbei, China. An imposing, 4.5 cm, mostly enveloped, smoky quartz "sentinel" protects the matrix plate covered with gemmy and lustrous, cinnamon-orange spessartines. Two smaller smokies poking out are a super accent. I really like the way the termination of the smoky is spessartine-free and two of the prism faces are only partially covered with spessartines. The smoky is complete all-around and pristine. Yes, a broken smoky and some nearby spessartines are noted, but this remains a rich and highly representative example of species and locale. You don't see many around anymore.
