Spessartine Garnet on Smoky Quartz

A fascinating and impressive 360-degree spessartine garnet on smoky quartz combination from Tongbei. The prism faces of the stout, sharply terminated smoky are preferentially peppered with two generations of gemmy spessartine garnets. The smaller trapezohedrons are golden-orange with the larger crystals, to 5 mm, are a beautiful rich cinnamon-orange. As is common with such Tongbei specimens, the garnets are restricted to the striking, lustrous stepped-growth prism faces. RARELY, as in this case, there are spessartines included in the termination. Interestingly, three of the offset termination faces are glass-clear into the gem termination, with the other three faces being frosted with satin lustre. The smoky body is translucent. The 1.7 cm side car quartz at the base adds pizzazz. Complete all-around and very nearly pristine. A termination tip wilber is out-of-sight in most of the possible fine display views. A fine combination small cabinet example from the locale. Little, if any new material has come out in the last five years. Get a good one, when you can. Every turn presents a different perspective to this classic.
