Spessartine Garnet on Schorl Tourmaline (ex Bob Reynolds Collection)

A seldom seen Garnet and Tourmaline association specimen from the Audrey Lynn Mine in Riverside County, California. The piece features a sharp, gemmy, rich orange-red colored, striated, dodecahedral crystal of Spessartine Garnet measuring 8 mm across sitting beautifully atop a jet-black, prismatic, striated crystal of Schorl Tourmaline with a few additional accenting Schorl crystals here and there. We've only had a handful of Spessartine and / or Schorl crystals from this lesser known locality for sale over the years, but this I believe is the FIRST one to feature BOTH species together! If you collect minerals of Southern California or pegmatite minerals, this is an important and attractive locality specimen that would make a fine addition to your collection. From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds who passed in August of 2020. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
