Spessartine Garnet on Quartz with Albite

A highly aesthetic and fine quality association specimen from Shengus featuring a beautiful, large, rich wine red colored, crystal of Spessartine Garnet measuring 3.3 cm across sitting atop notably compressed flattened gemmy colorless Quartz crystals with almost skeletal etched Albite. The Spessartine group has a bit of surface etching, which gives the piece an appearance rarely seen from this locality, and when it's rotated in the light, the directional luster that reflects off of each face creates a very pleasing effect. When backlit, the Spessartine does show some fiery red hues on the edges, and it was impossible to capture in a photo, so take my word for it when I say the piece looks better in person. The Garnet crystal is pristine, and the only roughness I can find on the display side is one small contact on one of the Quartz crystals. If you collect Garnets or gem pegmatite minerals, this one is just plain different from many other Spessartines you'll find from Shengus, as the Spessartine, Quartz and Albite are all unique in their form and appearance. A wonderful three-dimensional display piece of this a classic material from this important locale in Pakistan. Keep in mind, it's not terribly common to find such large and attractive Garnet crystals like this on matrix from any world locality, as most Garnet crystals average in the 1 - 2 cm range, and this one is well over 3 cm!
