Item Description

From the unusual California locality of the Southern Pacific Silica Quarry, this well-formed Spessartine Garnet is perched perfectly on a Feldspar-rich matrix. The deep, brownish-red Spessartine, 2.2 cm across, is very nearly complete and has classic Garnet habit. Specimens such as this are quite uncommon from here, and the small amount of contacting in the back does nothing to detract from the aesthetics or desirability of this rare piece. From the extensive collection of Bob Reynolds, who cherished both minerals and fossils as he collected. Bob is a prolific author and has had several curating positions in museums.
