Spessartine Garnet on Albite

Item Description

This is show and good quality cabinet sized specimen from Shengus featuring many very lustrous, dark wine red colored crystals of Spessartine Garnet measuring 1.6 cm across sitting atop blocky to partially etched / skeletal cream colored Albite. The Spessartine crystals are dodecahedral in form with deep defined striations on almost every face with a bit of artful etching in places. When backlit, the Garnets show little flashes of fiery red hues on the edges, and it was impossible to capture in a video, so take my word for it when I say the piece looks better in person. Nearly every Garnet crystal is pristine, and they look beautiful up close. If you collect Garnets or gem pegmatite minerals, this is a great three-dimensional piece of these classic and desirable Spessartines from Shengus. Keep in mind, it's not terribly common to find such large and attractive Garnet crystals like this on matrix from most world localities. Valued $2,000. Ex Brian Kosnar collection.
