Once these Spessartine Garnet gems hit the market, they were some of the most sought after Garnets out there. When they were first discovered, they immediately were recognized as being some of the best orange color Garnet extant, and it seems that the deposit was mined out almost as fast as it was discovered! The material has really dried up in recent years, and very little is available on the market, so don't miss out. This stone is a superb quality, saturated, very very slightly included rich orange color gemstone with a "Step Oval" cut. The color in this material is due to a high concentration of manganese and has very little iron content, which is why the stone is so orange and not red. This gem could be called what is being marketed as "Mandarin Garnet", because of the wonderful orange color.
