These highly etched, but terminated, spessartine garnets are truly fascinating. The sculptural aesthetics of the striking, dense stepped-growth, deep cleft in the center, luster and clarity are excellent, which are complemented by the lovely deep cherry-red color. It is safe to say these have become very sought-after, and this is an excellent example of this find. It is even better in person. This crystal is much blockier, than most in this size range. The out-of-sight fat edge does have a contact, but there is very little damage, per se. The backlit photo highlights the beautiful wine-red color saturation and gemmyness. An excellent quality spessartine from this find. 32 grams or 160 carats mass. Ex Matioli Collection.
