Spessartine Garnet and Smoky Quartz

A dramatic and aesthetic spessartine garnet and smoky quartz specimen from Tongbei, China. An imposing, 5.5 cm, mostly enveloped, smoky quartz "sentinel" protects the upright matrix plate COVERED with gemmy and lustrous, orange spessartines. Smaller smokies poking out are a nice accent. I really like the way the termination of the smoky is spessartine-free. Yes, there are thousands of these out there, but this is a pretty darn rich and good one. And its pristine. The base and back have been sawed to enhance the display quality. It sits up beautifully without any aide.
