Spessartine Garnet

Item Description

Spessartine Garnets range from red to orange in hue. The difference in color depends on the ratio of iron to manganese, where iron will create more of a red shade, and manganese will create a brighter orange color. This stone is somewhere in between with a deep orange color, showing a slight reddish overtone. The stone is good sized for the locality, as it weighs over 5 carats, which is bigger than most Spessartines you'll find out there. The stone has a unique Concave / Quantum Pear cut, as the pavillion has concave carvings, not just smooth faces. The stone does have some visible inclusions, but for the size and the attractive color, it's still a worthwhile example of this now fairly hard to find material.
