Spessartine Garnet

The Wushan Mine, going back 25 years or so, started producing some of the most iconic specimens of Spessartine Garnet in the world. It will go down as one of the great Chinese localities for the size, quality and number of pieces it produced. These pieces are some of the most recognized minerals to come from any Chinese locality. These are remarkable for their form and color, and are soon-to-be-classics, certainly among the finest examples of Spessartine from anywhere in the modern era of mineral collecting. This specimen features many, lustrous, gemmy, rich orange-red color crystals of Spessartine Garnet showing trapezohedral faces which measure up to 8 mm across with minor associated Muscovite. The crystals are good sized for the locality, and the color is deeper than most you'll find. They GLOW with color when backlit. The piece is in excellent condition, as most of the crystals are undamaged. When it comes to Garnet, there are thousands of localities around the world to produce specimens, but it's honestly not terribly common to find saturated red colored crystals like this which are both well-formed and gemmy.
