Spessartine Garnet

One of the great Chinese localities in terms of iconic specimens over the last 25 years or so, is the Wushan Mine, famous for its stellar Spessartine Garnets. These pieces are some of the most recognized mineral specimens to come from any Chinese locality. These are remarkable for their form and color, and are soon-to-be-classics, certainly among the finest examples of Spessartine from anywhere in the modern era of mineral collecting. This specimen features many, lustrous, gemmy, rich orange-red color crystals of Spessartine Garnet showing a combination of dodecahedral and trapezohedral faces which measure up to 6 mm across sitting on Microcline matrix. The crystals are good sized for the locality, and the color is deeper than most you'll find. They GLOW with color when backlit. The piece is in excellent condition, as most of the crystals are undamaged. It's important to note that all of the Garnets are sharp, smooth and glistening showing no signs of etched / pitted faces. When it comes to Garnet, there are thousands of localities around the world to produce specimens, but it's honestly not terribly common to find saturated red colored crystals like this. Valued for the size and quality of the crystals, and relative rarity on the market now.
