Item Description

A 2.4 cm, lustrous, variegated, spessartine garnet trapezohedron is jauntily set on the section of a VERY RARE, gray, baveno-twinned orthoclase crystal. Part of the garnet is contacted, but there is little actual damage. Sections of other garnets on the orthoclase add character. Ex Bob Reynolds Collection, a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of the San Bernardino County Museum. He passed away in 2020. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011. Spessartine is relatively rare from the pegmatites on Little Cahuilla Mountain and the association with RARE baveno-twinned orthoclase makes this showy piece doubly important.
