Large for the locale, a nice big garnet specimen! An impressive 2.8 cm spessartine garnet crystal dominates this sculptural and aesthetic small cabinet piece of a dense cluster of smaller spessartines very attractively set amidst a contrasting matrix of lustrous, blocky, snow-white albite crystals. The textbook, sharp, large trapezohedron and smaller crystals are very glassy and highly lustrous. They are a partially translucent, rich wine-red under normal light, but GLOW with cherry-red gemminess, when backlit! The gorgeous large spessartine is pristine. There are small Schorl sections embedded at the base, as a bonus. The bit of noted bruising to smaller crystals is certainly only a modest detraction. Ex Kurt Hefendehl Collection, a well-known German collector who amassed a world-wide collection of over 6000 pieces. A fine, rich, 3-dimensional spessartine and albite combination with a significant large spessartine from the well-known Shigar Valley.
