Mineral specimens from this obscure Cumbria iron mine are seldom available and this is a rare and showy two-sided combination specimen. Rare, gemmy, beta-style smoky quartz crystals. to 2.4 cm, are nicely set in vugs lined with sparkly hematite (var: specularite) in the massive hematite ore matrix. Scattered, faint pink, platy, baryte crystals are a fine and contrasting accent, especially on one side. The bruised tip to the smoky is out-of-sight on the back side.
