Item Description
Scintillating fields of specular hematite plates are attractively set on the sculptural two-sided small cabinet plate of red-rust, bubbly, botryoidal hematite "kidney ore" from the well-known Florence Mine of Cumbria. The backside is richly and strikingly complemented with sparkly drusy quartz and more specular hematite. The Florence Mine opened in 1914 and was the last deep iron mine in Europe to close, in 2007 (MINDAT). A classic and very showy two-sided example of the species and locale.
