Item Description
Well here it is, a genuine piece of Arizona Spangolite. The world's finest example of Spangolite (and arguably one of the 10 best mineral specimens extant) was found at Bisbee, and this piece is from the same area. Yes, there are many pieces of well-crystallized example of Spangolite from the Mex-Tex Mine in New Mexico, but the Arizona material is one of the great treasures for U.S. mineral collectors. While this piece isn't by any means a top shelf killer, it's still a confirmed piece from Bisbee, which carries some weight in my mind. The piece features micro greenish-blue spots (non crystallized) of gemmy Spangolite associated with blood-red colored Cuprite and acicular medium green colored Malachite. The piece comes from the collection of Paolo Matioli, but also inclued are three more labels from other dealers / collectors. Matioli's label states that it's from the Soutwest Mine, but I'm leaving simply at Bisbee for the sake of the specimen because it could be from the Czar Mine, the Cole or the Southwest. If you've ever wanted a piece of Arizona mining history, along with major mineral cultural importance, don't miss out on this one. You probably won't have a chance to get another in a long time.
