Item Description
This extinct sandstone quarry near Little Rock, Arkansas is famous for solution quartz specimens, such as this exceptional large piece. The striking, sculptural and pristine two-sided jackstraw foater specimen is composed of a myriad of superbly lustrous and glassy, limpid prisms, to 4.0 cm. The crystals were in solution and not deposited on country rock of sandstone or shale. The light brown mineral is Rectorite, a rare complex clay. See the 1978 Mineralogical Record article in Vol. 9, No. 2. Ex Al Kidwell Collection of Houston. Al was a well-known mineral collector and research geologist for Exxon. He passed away in 2008. The Phosphate Kidwellite is named for him. Highly sought after, this is an amazing large specimen.
