Item Description

This is an exceptionally rare specimen of the hydrated uranium silicate species Soddyite. The species was named in 1922 after Frederick Soddy, an English physicist and radiochemist, who was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1921 in chemistry in recognition for his work on radioactive decay. This miniature sized specimen is from the famed Musonoi Mine in DR Congo and features rich yellow colored blocky orthorhombic crystals on matrix. The crystals are micros, and best seen with a loupe or under a microscope, and we've provided photos taken with a Canon MP-E 65 mm macro lens to better illustrate their quality. This piece comes with a printed photo of the Soddyite crystals, showing their superb quality and visceral beauty. These specimens are incredibly hard to find on the market these days.
