Item Description

These Sodalite (var: Hackmanite) specimens have provided collectors with some amazing pieces featuring some of the largest, sharpest and most colorful crystals ever seen. The colors of the Afghani Hackmanites ranges from blue to purple to pink and they show an amazing fluorescence under longwave UV light. This specimen features a lovely, well-formed, fairly sharp, purplish color Hackmanite crystal measuring 3.0 cm, which is good sized for the material. It is associated with a 3.6 cm soft yellow Richterite crystal flaring off the other side. We have photographed the specimen uder SW UV light, and the Hackmanite and the Richterite show a whitish yellow hue. Under LW UV light, the Hackmanite crystal is a brilliant orange color. The piece is also incredibly phosfluorescent as the crystal itself will actually turn a darker royal purple color when viewed in daylight after being exposed to UV light. The crystal will eventually return to it's normal soft purple color after a few hours. This phenomenon is known as tenebrescence. The process of "changing" the color of the crystal is 100% repeatable, and in no way permanently affects the specimen. A colorful and attractive overall specimen of this material which has not appeared on the market for a few years now in any significance. Don't miss out on this one as the locality might be nearly exhausted since very few new specimens have found their way out of the ground. Ex Herb Obodda who priced it at $600, but I easily think it could be as much as $800 or more today.
