Sodalite (var: Hackmanite) (fluorescent and tenebrescent) (ex Bill Larson Collection)

Item Description

A beautiful trio of polished cabochons of Hackmanite (a variety of Sodalite) from the Pyant Gyi Mine. The color in the larger two stones is a misty grey-lilac hue, while the smaller stone is more of a pale silvery color. The stones measure from 15.04 mm x 12.21 mm x 8.47 mm to 14.84 m mx 11.33 mm x 5.32 mm. The total weight of all three stones is 19.15 carat. Under short wave ultraviolet light, the stones fluoresce a nice pink hue, but under long wave ultraviolet let, they GLOW with a brilliant orange color! All three gems are tenebrescent which means after they are exposed to UV light, they will turn a strong purple color, but then will return to their original silvery-lilac hues after being exposed to prolonged daylight. This process is 100% repeatable and in no way hurts the stones. From the collection of Bill ("Burma Bill") Larson of Fallbrook, California.
