Item Description
These Sodalite (var: Hackmanite) specimens have provided collectors with some amazing pieces featuring some of the largest, sharpest and most colorful crystals ever seen. The colors of the Afghani Hackmanites ranges from blue to purple to pink and they show an amazing fluorescence under longwave UV light. The piece is also incredibly phosfluorescent and the crystal itself will actually turn a darker royal purple color when viewed in daylight after being exposed to UV light. The crystal will eventually return to its normal soft color after a few hours. This phenomenon is known as tenebrescence. The process of "changing" the color of the crystal is 100% repeatable, and in no way permanently affects the specimen. This specimen features a couple lovely, well-formed, sharp, purplish-blue color Hackmanite crystals measuring up to 1.6 cm, which is decent sized for the material. A colorful and attractive overall specimen of this material which has not appeared on the market for a few years now in any significance. Don't miss out on this one as the locality might be nearly exhausted since very few new specimens have found their way out of the ground. From an old East Coast collection, and valued at $1500 by the previous dealer, probably worth more today.
