Item Description
Going back about 15 years, there were some truly impressive discoveries of Sodalite in the Koksha Valley of Afghanistan. This area is best known for its world-class specimens of Lapis / Lazurite, but these gem grade Sodalites totally changed the game. I have been quite impressed with the quantity and quality of large, gem quality stones that were produced. Sodalite is a very durable stone and that's why it is so popular among dealers and collectors alike, but most gems are well under 1 carat in weight. This impressive "Oval Brilliant" cut gem weighs in at OVER 5 CARATS, which is quite noteworthy for the material. This gem has a very very light blue color (nearly colorless), but it's one of the largest and cleanest stones in this size range that we've had to offer from Afghanistan. It does have a few minor inclusions, but it's still very impressive in person. Perhaps the most noteworthy aspect of the stone is the fact that it shows a stunning intense yellow fluorescence under SW UV light! Keep in mind that this material is now is very difficult to find on the market as nothing has been found in several years. This is not only a fantastic rarity, but a significant collectors gem. This material is retailing for HIGH numbers now across the board, and I have seen these gems selling for over $1,000 per carat as shows. This stone came to us with a retail price of $3,556.00.
