Item Description
Sodalite is well known from Afghanistan in impressive crystals with superb colors. The desirable Hackmanite variety is also seen in a large number of specimens from the Sar-e-Sang area as well, which shows beautiful fluorescence. This piece is not only highly fluorescent, but even shows a color shift from a blue shade in halogen lighting to a greenish-blue color in sunlight. Under LW UV light, the crystals show a brilliant orange color, but the main 1.1 cm crystal only fluoresces a little since it appears to be coated by another species (possibly Richterite{?} or mixed with Afghanite?). The other fluorescing minerals are the white Calcite which glows with an electric pink color, and golden Phlogopite which shows a brilliant yellow fluorescence under short wave light.
