Snake and egg carving on Quartz

The sculptural quality of this large Chinese carving is outstanding. A coiled, green, black and reddish-brown, serpentine (ironically!) viper protects its first hatched baby and eggs and is ready to strike! It rests on bed of quartz crystals and the underlying base is carved stone. The scale detail on the snake's skin is exeptional. We usually don't deal in carvings, unless the quality is high and the price point is excellent, such as this dramatic and very fine piece. The snake and eggs attach to the quartz by a metal pin. 4.4 pounds or 2.0 kilos mass. Ex Robert Nowakowski Collection and valued by him at $900.
