Snake and egg carving on Quartz

An outstanding large Chinese carving. A coiled, green and reddish-brown, serpentine (ironically!) viper protects its eggs and is ready to strike! It rests on bed of quartz crystals and the underlying base is carved stone. The scale detail on the snake's skin is very fine. We usually don't deal in carvings, unless the quality is high and the price point is excellent, such as this very fine piece. The snake and eggs attach to the quartz by a metal pin. 4.9 pounds or 2.2 kilos mass. Value?? Ex Nowakowski Collection
