Item Description

Aesthetically intergrown 360-degree, small cabinet cluster of smoky quartz/amethyst crystals from the well-known Reel Mine of North Carolina. The three largest crystals are all doubly terminated, adding allure. The glassy crystals are transparent to translucent and have satin luster faces. The impressive, dominating large crystal is 4.5 cm tall and has a subtle, light purple core in the termination. Complete all-around and nearly pristine, with only gentle bruising to the tips of the two largest crystals. Some of the finest Eastern USA amethysts have come from the Reel Mine and this is a fine combination example. See the 1990 Mineralogical Record article in Vol. 21, No. 3. Ex John Whatley Collection and acquired in 1988. John was a well-known Georgia collector (1939-2022). Classic and showy combination quartz from the locale.
