Item Description

Striking, RARE, rich dark phantom in this very glassy, highly lustrous, sharply terminated smoky quartz crystal from the famous Little Three Mine. The termination faces are complete all-around and pristine on this sculptural compound crystal. Several prism faces are nicely complemented by contrasting crusts of pink lepidolite blades. The Little Three is famed for exceptional topaz and spessartines, and has also produced fine smoky quartz pieces, such as this. This excellent crystal dates to the Louis Spalding collecting era of the 1970s and 80s. See the 2002 Mineralogical Record article in Vol. 33, No. 5. Ex Bill Larson San Diego County Pegmatite Collection and long on display at his Pala International shop in Fallbrook. A unique Little Three smoky with a very well-defined phantom.
