Smoky Quartz with Epidote and Pilinite (Bavenite) (ex Kay Robertson Collection)

Item Description

Sharp, lustrous, gemmy crystals of Smoky Quartz measuring up to 2.5 cm are assocated with golden-green Epidote sitting on cream colored Feldspar matrix. The label states that there are crystals of Pinilite (the old name for Bavenite) on the piece as well. The Smokies are in fairly good shape, though a few of them are slightly rough. Interestingly, these crystals are richly colored at the center, and nearly colorless around the edges. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#4088). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
