Smoky Quartz (Wein Coll.)

Item Description

An impressive large smoky quartz crystal from a much less well-known Austrian locality. The glassy, pseudohexagonal giant has pretty, light smoky shading and is drop-dead, water-clear in the upper portion. The internal crazing really adds character here. Every turn presents a different perspective. The lower portion is translucent and the "tail" smoky is a super accent. Complete all-around and nearly pristine, with only a trivial bit of termination (ding on top) and side wear. The back of the lower portion is a contact and actually has very little damage, per se. Alpine smokies of this large size and quality are much sought-after. Ex Rolf Wein Collection # 4432, a noted Alpine collector. acquired in 1995.
