Item Description

Swiss Quartz is famous around the world for its superior quality. These specimens are among the most impressive examples of the species in the terms of form, crystal clarity and often excellent smoky hues. This fantastic small cabinet Smoky Quartz specimen is a razor-sharp, very lustrous, WATER CLEAR "Gwindel" with a gorgeous "cognac" hue that is accompanied by a small "sidecar" Smoky in a thin layer of matrix. The group shows a very slight "twist", the main characteristic of a Gwindel specimen, but it's the internal optical clarity that makes it so desirable. The termination on the piece is sadly dinged, so it's not 100% perfect, but it's still superb quality and just beautiful in person. Another great aspect of the piece is the fact that it has ZERO "Chlorite" coating whatsoever, so it's smooth and glassy on every faces. It's very difficult to convey the quality in photos. A lovely display piece from the Swiss Alps, and a must have for any fan of Quartz. Priced at $800 in the inventory. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#10284). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
